Frequently Asked Questions

What EveryGene Academy includes, who it serves, and how access works.

About EveryGene

EveryGene creates genetics education resources for trainees and clinicians. Our tools include EveryGene Academy, physical flashcards, free PDF workbooks, and educational content that connects genetics concepts with clinical reasoning. Academy is one part of that work.

EveryGene Academy is a genetics question bank for genetic counseling students preparing for the ABGC examination and medical genetics learners preparing for ABMGG boards. It combines shared core genetics with audience-specific practice and detailed explanations.

Academy is for genetic counseling learners preparing for ABGC and medical genetics trainees preparing for ABMGG. Some content is shared; other questions are organized for a particular audience. Choose the material that matches your examination and your current official outline.

No. ABGC and ABMGG are both intentional audiences. Academy includes shared core genetics plus ABGC-focused and ABMGG-focused content. A counseling-specific guide or question may focus on one audience without redefining the whole platform.

EveryGene focuses on genetics education. Academy offers shared core and audience-specific questions, detailed explanations, timed and untimed practice, topic filters, and a performance dashboard. Use explanations to learn the reasoning and your dashboard to choose what to review next. Pair practice with the original 101 Must-Know Genetic Conditions flashcards and free genetics workbooks for ABGC and ABMGG preparation.

Our contributors include medical geneticists and a board-certified genetic counselor. Questions and explanations are developed with reference selection and contributor review. Not every item has the same author or reviewer; see the contributors and question development page for the people involved.

Content and Questions

The question bank contains 1,000+ questions across shared core genetics, ABGC-focused content, and ABMGG-focused content. The total spans all three content groups. It is not a claim that each examination track has 1,000+ relevant questions.

Content follows genetics topics such as molecular genetics, inheritance and risk, cytogenetics, cancer genetics, prenatal genetics, testing technologies, variant interpretation, counseling, and professional practice.

We review content and correct published material when a credible error is identified and implement corrections rapidly. Contact us to report an error or suggest a correction.

Both exam pathways cover many of the same concepts, including inheritance, genetic conditions, and genetic testing. Historically, candidates shared a general genetics exam until ABGC introduced its own comprehensive exam in 2009.

EveryGene Academy combines Shared Core Genetics questions with ABGC-specific and ABMGG-specific categories, helping you strengthen that common foundation while focusing on your exam’s priorities.

Canadian genetic counseling certification is through the Canadian Board of Genetic Counseling (CBGC). CCMG has different medical and laboratory genetics certification functions. Shared genetics concepts may be useful, but EveryGene does not claim alignment with either body's examination. Refer to the relevant official outline for your certification.

Shared core content and explanations may support general genetics learning. For any specific certification, use that body's current official outline and do not assume EveryGene's categories match it.

Features and How It Works

Timed practice adds a time limit to a set you create. Choose the number of questions and the topics, then work through the set before the timer ends. Review your results and explanations afterward.

Untimed practice lets you work without a clock and review explanations as part of the session. It is intended for learning a concept before you add timing.

Yes. You can create sessions filtered by category or subcategory to focus on a specific area of the question bank.

Once you have encountered every question in your available pool, the Unused filter has no questions left. During active access, you can still repeat previously answered questions, create incorrect-only sets when incorrect questions remain, and review completed tests and explanations. Finishing the pool does not unlock an additional bank.

Yes. Choose the Incorrect question filter to create an incorrect-only practice set. Questions can repeat in later sets. The filter uses your latest answered attempt: after you answer a question correctly, it leaves the incorrect pool.

Any content added to the bank during your active access period is available through your account. We do not promise a specific number or schedule of additions.

Contact us with your account details for help with account or progress questions. We will explain what a reset would affect before anything is changed.
